American Mafia Mini Series Episode 3

With the death of former Mafia Boss Luigi Russo the Russo Crime Family has become the Luciano Crime Family headed up by Giovanni Luciano and his brother Joe Luciano and his young Consigliere and protege Fabrizio DeAngelo. Under Luciano’s rule the Family has become more successful than ever before, under Russo’s rule the Family had interests in gambling, prostitution, extortion and truck hijacking. But with Luciano’s authority the Family has infiltrated Unions, Construction, Waste Disposal, Stock and Identity fraud and many more business making the Family one of the wealthiest not only in New York but the entire country.

Recently Luciano has shown his prominence with the marriage of his daughter Francesca, it had a guest list full of politicians, judges, and police chiefs and of course the Bosses of the Families across the country. One guest was heard asking if the President would be there later to pay his respects to Giovanni. But the other Bosses weren’t there to just have a good time they were there for business. With the recent end to the bloodshed in New York and the death of a Boss the Commission had to ratify Giovanni as the Boss of the Family but most were allies of Giovanni so most likely Giovanni invited all the Bosses to elect his Capo Di Tutti Capi of the American Mafia. During the party all the Bosses went to a private room that was reserved for Francesca’s party but no one knew anything about it. The list of Bosses that were attendance were the Rangano Family from Chicago, the Carbone Family from Detroit, the Romano Family from Philadelphia, and the Cicero Family fr om New Orleans. There were also smaller Families there as well that had some authority on the Commission but only held power in their territory much like the Marconi Family from Boston, the Rizzoni Family from New Jersey, and the Narducci Family from Tampa. If the FBI knew that the heads of all the crime families were in one place it could’ve been just as big as the Appalachian Meeting but Giovanni was smart enough to bribe the right people.

“Welcome my friends!” Giovanni said with a great big smile on his face. “I am so glad you can all make it here! And I’m sure my daughter feels the same.”

Salvatore Carbone head of the Carbone interrupted Giovanni’s speech surprising everyone but didn’t surprise Giovanni because Salvatore was just like Russo, bull headed, loud, and insulting. “Listen Giovanni I got a long flight back to Chicago tonight and I’d like to get back to my hotel before the end of this year.”

Fabrizio was sitting by Giovanni’s side and being trained by Giovanni at the art of reading people; he already sized up the people at the table. He already knew that most of the Bosses would support Giovanni becoming Boss of Bosses, except Salvatore. He planned that with the death of Luigi Russo being that he was the strongest ally to Russo and also he was the oldest Boss on the Commission.

“Sal show a little respect huh? It is Giovanni’s daughter’s wedding.” In Fabrizio’s mind he really liked Anthony Narducci he was a nice old Don with a full head of gray hair and respected the old ways but was up to date with the new ways of making money (Fabrizio had been supplying Narducci with heroin so of course they got along) but Narducci held dominance in Tampa with an iron fist and was unofficially the Boss of Florida.

“Alright,” Giovanni said to prevent a large argument. “What I called this meeting for is to ask for permission to take over officially as the Boss of the Russo Family so I suggest a vote so everyone gets their fair share.”

As Fabrizio predicted, all the Bosses from across the country voted in favor of Giovanni taking over the Family, and of course Salvatore voted “no”.

“I suggest we vote Don Luciano as the head of our Commission to lead us all to peace and prosperity.” Vincent Rizzoni was the youngest Boss on the Commission at the age of 35 and had actually studied to be a lawyer but inherited the Family after his father’s death.

“I agree with Vincent.” Narducci said.

Salvatore jumped up from his seat, his face was as red as the table clothes on all the tables in the ball room. “LISTEN YOU TWO! YOUR FAMILIES ARE BASICALLY GLORIFIED CREWS SO I HAVE NO CLUE WHY YOU’RE EVEN HERE! AND ANOTHER THING I WON’T STAND QUIETLY AND LET SOME PUNK THINK HE CAN KILL A FRIEND OF MINE AND TAKEOVER THE COMMISSION!”

Salvatore looked at his bodyguard and they both left. After Salvatore left a vote was made and the majority voted Giovanni as Boss of Bosses. After everyone congratulated Giovanni and politely left the party Giovanni asked his brother Joe and Fabrizio to stay.

“What’s your opinion on Carbone, Joe?” Joe took a long sip of his wine and looked at Giovanni.

“Well I think he showed no respect to not just you, but the whole Commission as well.” Giovanni took a cigar out of his inside jacket pocket and lit it and looked at Fabrizio.

“What do you think?” Fabrizio didn’t say anything the whole meeting, for the most reason was because he was just meeting the entire Commission and also didn’t want to hear Salvatore complain that at his age Fabrizio wasn’t old enough to be given such a high rank.

“Well Giovanni you know me, what Sal did was very rude to you and all the Bosses that were just here. But he was also very smart.” Joe took another long sip of his wine and looked at Fabrizio.

“What do you mean? That moron is far from smart! The only reason that Salvatore was given his own Family was because he killed his former Boss and since he was a friend with Russo no Boss was going to argue. He wanted to make a scenario and see if he can force a reaction from us to effect the decision of the other Bosses!”

Joe said something under his breath but no one asked what he said.

“Giovanni what do you think about Sal? Obviously he hates that you killed his friend.”

Fabrizio interrupted which was very rare for him.

“He doesn’t care if we deal drugs he’s just mad that we supply other Families but not his.”

Joe picked up the open bottle of wine he had brought in from the bar outside in the ballroom and refilled his glass and took another long sip.

“Even so, his main problem with us is that he figured after Russo’s death he’d be boss of the Commission. What do you think, Giovanni; is he going to be a problem?”

Giovanni took a long sigh and leaned back in his chair, even though he had been unofficial boss of the family and had become a multi millionaire he had aged rapidly. He was only 55 but looked as if he was 80 with white hair and dark horn rimmed glasses. Before the civil war he had thought about retiring to Florida with his wife and daughter but felt that he needed to help lead the Family. “I don’t know, like you said Joe he’s basically a glorified thug. So I don’t think he can be a big problem as long as we keep him away from our family. But what I DO know is that I wanna see my daughter enjoy her wedding.” All the men laughed at this, Giovanni waved Fabrizio over to help him get up.

“Ya know Fabrizio, I wish you weren’t already married. This guy that my daughter married–I can’t stand him! He’s always drinking and causing problems but she still loves him.” As Fabrizio was helping Giovanni to the door Giovanni looked at Fabrizio with a grin on his face. “But there’s actually one thing I really hate about him.”

“What’s that Giovanni” Francesco asked.

“He’s from Detroit too, I don’t know what it is with people from Detroit but every single one acts the same way. It’s like they like annoying me.”

Fabrizio grinned a little bit and let out a small laugh and helped Giovanni back into the main ball room.
